Whale Watching Open-Boat Expedition from Nanaimo Harbour

Board a fast, open Zodiac and chase Humpbacks, Orcas, and Dall's porpoises through the Salish Sea with a marine naturalist at your side. Small groups of just 12 guarantee front-row encounters that will stay with you for life.

What to expect

You step aboard at Nanaimo Harbour into a sleek, powerful Zodiac crewed by a marine biologist-naturalist who knows the Salish Sea's whale families by name and markings. The boat races to productive feeding zones, then idles quietly as Humpbacks breach and blow just metres away — or a superpod of Orcas surges past in a wall of black and white. Your naturalist provides real-time commentary on behaviour, ecology, and conservation. Binoculars and float suits are provided; the pace is relaxed and entirely wildlife-led.

Good to know

Tours run approximately 3–3.5 hours; departure is from Nanaimo Harbour steps from the cruise terminal. Pre-book directly — whale watching is the most in-demand activity in port and boats sell out weeks ahead. Dress in warm layers regardless of air temperature; the Zodiac creates wind chill. Motion-sickness medication recommended for sensitive guests.
