Vast, sweeping meadows of nemophila (baby-blue-eyes) in spring and vivid red kochia in autumn make Hitachi Seaside Park one of Japan's most breathtaking natural spectacles — and it's just 20 minutes from Oarai port.
What to expect
Rent a bicycle at the park entrance and glide through seemingly endless fields of blue nemophila (peak: mid-April to early May) or the fiery red kochia hills (peak: mid-October) — both have become internationally famous and genuinely earn the title 'bucket-list.' Beyond the flower fields, the park offers rose gardens, a seaside zone with ocean views, and quiet forested walking paths. The scale and colour saturation on a clear day is unlike anything in Europe or the Americas. A visit here rewards at least two to three hours of leisurely exploration.
