Ascend the flat-topped 'Table Mountain' rising dramatically above the city through ancient lowland rainforest teeming with endemic birds and butterflies, emerging onto a plateau with sweeping views over Manokwari Harbour and the island-studded bay below.
What to expect
The Gunung Meja Nature Reserve sits minutes from the port, making it the most time-efficient wilderness escape available. Your guide navigates a network of trails through cathedral-like forest where fig trees and strangler figs compete for light. Along the plateau ridge, you'll pick out Mansinam Island, Doreri Bay and, on clear days, the Arfak peaks inland. The descent brings you past WWII remnants hidden in the undergrowth — a reminder that this jungle witnessed fierce Pacific battles. Back in town with energy to explore the waterfront.
