Meet a genuine Sámi reindeer herder on their family land, hand-feed a herd of reindeer and receive an intimate, unhurried lesson in 10,000-year-old Arctic herding culture over an open fire.
What to expect
You're welcomed onto snow-covered Sámi land where a herder in traditional gákti guides you among a living herd, showing you how to read reindeer body language and hand-feed them lichen from your palm. Around a lavvu tent fire, coffee brewed in a blackened pot and warm smoked reindeer bread are shared as your host tells stories of seasonal migration routes. The combination of animal connection, cultural depth and Arctic landscape is quietly, profoundly moving. Allow 2.5–3 hours.
