A private full-day exploration of the wild Izu Peninsula — volcanic sea caves, dramatic capes, and a hidden onsen resort — the most scenically varied coastline in all of eastern Japan.
What to expect
Your guide takes you south from Shimizu along the eastern Izu coast, stopping at dramatic Jogasaki Cliff — a 9 km lava coastline with a suspension bridge above crashing Pacific surf. The volcanic Ryugu Grotto (a sea cave whose waters glow turquoise in sunlight) is a jaw-dropping natural wonder almost unknown to international visitors. Lunch features the Izu specialty of 'kinmedai' (splendid alfonsino) at a harbourside restaurant in Ito. The afternoon is yours to soak in a private onsen at a coastal inn before the scenic drive back to Shimizu. Every element is pre-arranged by your guide.
Good to know
This is a 9–10 hour excursion — best for ships with an 18:00 or later all-aboard. Jogasaki suspension bridge walk is moderate (good shoes advised). Pre-book the day-use onsen slot with your guide. Ryugu Grotto is tidal — your guide will time the visit for optimal water colour (mid-morning light is best).
