What to expect
After a fitting session for dry suits and paddle gear at the shore, your sea-kayak guide leads you out into the glassy waters of the bay, threading between icebergs that glow aquamarine and sapphire below the waterline. The guide instructs on safe iceberg distances and reading the water for calving risk, adding a genuine edge of Arctic expedition to the experience. Paddling through absolute silence broken only by the drip of your blade and the distant thunder of a calving berg is meditative and exhilarating in equal measure. The return paddle often reveals harp seals basking on low ice floes.
