Arctic Wildlife Watching: Whales, Seals & Seabirds by Private Vessel

Board a private vessel skippered by a local wildlife expert and scan the waters and clifftops of Umivik Bay for humpback and minke whales, ringed seals, Arctic foxes, and vast seabird colonies. Greenland's wildlife is staggering — and this is the finest way to encounter it.

What to expect

Your naturalist-skipper departs the bay and heads toward feeding grounds and cliff-face seabird rookeries, narrating the ecology of this extraordinary corner of the Arctic throughout. Humpback whales are frequently sighted breaching and bubble-net feeding in the cold, nutrient-rich waters; ringed and bearded seals haul out on ice floes alongside the vessel. Little auks, gannets, and Arctic terns wheel overhead in their thousands. Binoculars and a knowledgeable commentary make every sighting meaningful rather than merely photographic.

Good to know

3–4 hour private charter; maximum 6 guests for a genuinely exclusive experience. Dress in warm, windproof layers — temperatures on the water drop sharply. Seasickness medication recommended for guests with sensitivity. All-aboard buffer of at least 1 hour strongly advised. Book 8–10 weeks in advance.
