What to expect
The causeway walk onto St Patrick's Isle sets the tone — the ruined red-sandstone cathedral and 10th-century round tower rise above you against open sky. Inside the curtain walls you trace centuries of Norse and early Christian occupation, with interpretive panels that bring the saga to life. The Fenoderee (the Story of Mann museum in Peel) houses remarkable Viking-age artefacts including the Peel sarcophagus of a Norse warrior queen. Peel town itself is the most characterful fishing port on the island, with a working quayside and independent smokeries supplying Manx kippers.
Good to know
Peel is approx. 12 miles / 20–25 minutes from Douglas by taxi or hire car. Combine with a harbour lunch at the Creek Inn or the Marine Hotel for a rounded half-day. Manx National Heritage admission can be pre-booked online. Allow 2.5–3 hours including the museum.
