Paddle a kayak through jade-green mangrove lagoons and swim in the crystalline cenotes of El Corchito — a protected ecological reserve just minutes from the pier, teeming with flamingos, manatees and tropical birds.
What to expect
El Corchito sits a short taxi or tuk-tuk ride from the cruise pier, making it the most conveniently timed adventure in Progreso. You launch kayaks into mirror-calm mangrove channels where roseate spoonbills and herons nest at eye level. Three natural cenotes punctuate the reserve — each one a different shade of emerald — perfect for a refreshing swim. A knowledgeable naturalist guide keeps the group small and the commentary rich throughout.
Good to know
Reserve entry is included; bring a dry bag for valuables, biodegradable sunscreen (mandatory in cenotes) and a change of clothes. The reserve is only ~3 km from the pier — easy to reach and easy to get back from. Tours typically run 3–4 hours, leaving generous time before all-aboard.
