Tenders, when used, land right in the middle of the action. The first-timers’ trap is treating Argostoli like a tender port that requires a long ride to “town” — it doesn’t. You are already in town. The real risk is underestimating drive times to the north. Assos and Fiskardo are roughly 1.5 hours each way on winding roads. Cut the return too fine and the buffer evaporates fast.
Plan on 60–90 minutes back in Argostoli before all-aboard, more if you have gone north. Check your ship’s exact times the night before; they are the only numbers that matter.

The ship’s equivalent is legitimate insurance against traffic or a late tender, but on a typical 08:00–18:00 call the direct option gives you the same sights for noticeably less money and zero group regimentation. Experienced cruisers know that Kefalonia’s beauty is in the views between the stops; this tour puts you in the front row for all of them.
