New York is almost always a docked port at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on the Hudson River. The same experiences bought through the ship’s excursion desk will cost noticeably more. The ship’s version of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island tour is often the better buy only when the schedule is tight or you value the guaranteed return to the gangway with no risk of missing the ship. For the 9/11 tour and the Central Park/SUMMIT combination, direct booking is almost always cheaper and more flexible.
The NYC: Manhattan Sightseeing Helicopter Tour at USD 272 per person is expensive either way; the ship’s price is higher still but includes the peace of mind of a dedicated transfer. Experienced cruisers treat the helicopter as a splurge best booked direct unless the ship’s timing or group size is a deciding factor.
Assume an 8am gangway and 4:30pm all-aboard. Start with the NYC: Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island Guided Tour with Ferry (book the earliest ferry slot). You should be back ashore by 1pm. If I could pick only one, it would be the NYC: Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island Guided Tour with Ferry. At USD 49 per person it is the clearest win against the ship’s markup, it is run by the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration itself (4.70 from 6,600 reviews), and nothing else on the list matches the emotional weight of standing on both islands.
