Most ships calling Reykjavik in the next four months dock at Skarfabakki, the main cruise berth roughly 4 km from the city centre. The new Vör terminal opened in 2026, so you step off the gangway into a modern building with facilities. It is not a tender port for the vessels from Explora Journeys, Princess, Silversea or Azamara listed here.
Disembarkation usually begins 30–45 minutes after the ship is secured. Plan on boots on the quay around 08:30 for an 08:00 arrival. Getting into town means a cruise-line shuttle (check your daily programme — the old free port shuttle ended in 2025), taxi, or direct pickup if your excursion offers it. The ship’s version is the better buy when timing is tight or the tour includes a long transfer, because the operator will not sail without you. Skip the food walk and any lagoon visit. A half day is not long enough for the Golden Circle, Volcano Crater and Blue Lagoon Small-Group Tour without rushing. The Speedboat Whale Watching Small-Group Tour in Reykjavik or Sky Lagoon Entrance Ticket Including 7-Step Ritual work better if you want to stay closer to town, but the Classic tour gives the clearest sense of Iceland beyond the harbour. If the ship offers a convenient pickup for the Golden Circle, Volcano Crater and Blue Lagoon Small-Group Tour, that single long day can replace both. The Speedboat Whale Watching Small-Group Tour in Reykjavik pairs neatly with the food walk for a lighter wildlife-and-city day.
Given the choice I would take the Golden Circle Classic Day Tour from Reykjavik in the morning and the Reykjavik Food Walk - Local Foodie Adventure in Iceland in the afternoon. At USD 85 and USD 146 per person the pair costs a couple less than one premium ship excursion, the operators are excellent, and you see both the iconic landmarks and what Icelanders actually eat.
