Is the 360 Chicago Observation Deck Worth It?

The 360 Chicago deck sits on the 94th floor of what used to be the John Hancock building. You get 360-degree views stretching from the lakefront to the western suburbs and, on clear days, all the way to Indiana and Michigan. Expect a modern indoor space with big windows, a few interactive screens, and a bar. The TILT platform (a glass floor that leans you outward) is the main novelty. It’s genuinely fun for a minute but not life-changing. The whole visit usually takes 30-45 minutes unless you linger with a drink.

Best time is late afternoon or right before sunset, especially from May through early October when the days are long and the lake looks impressive. Summer weekends get crowded; winter can be brutally cold on the outdoor terrace but offers the clearest air. Expect to pay around $30-45 for basic admission. Drinks or the Sip & View package push it to $55-85 per person. Bundling with a hop-on hop-off bus saves a little if you were going to do that anyway.

Honest tips: Skip the basic timed ticket and book the sunset slot if you can. The difference in light and photos is massive. Do the TILT once for the novelty but don’t wait in a second line for it. If you’re afraid of heights or it’s very cloudy, you’ll probably be happier saving the money for a boat tour or a nice dinner with the same view from street level.
