Should You Visit Al Azhar Park in Cairo?

Al Azhar Park offers one of the few large, well-kept green spaces in Cairo. Expect clean walkways, lawns, a couple of decent cafés, and excellent views over the old city and the Citadel, especially at sunset. It’s relaxed rather than exciting—good for an hour or two of fresh air after days of chaotic streets and traffic. The park is popular with families and couples in the evening; it can feel crowded on weekends but stays calm during weekdays. Best time to visit is October to April when the weather is pleasant. In summer it’s brutally hot and the park loses much of its appeal after 11 am.

Expect to pay around $1–3 for entry depending on the day. Food and drinks inside are overpriced compared with the city; a coffee and snack will run you $5–10. The best approach is to combine it with a walk through nearby Islamic Cairo or El Moez Street in the morning, then head to the park for sunset. Skip the formal guided “park tours” unless you need transportation and translation—most visitors do fine on their own. Pick a table at one of the upper-level cafés for the view if you want to linger; otherwise just walk the main paths and leave before it gets dark.
