Lisbon Aquarium: Worth It?

Lisbon’s aquarium is one of the better ones in Europe: big central tank with rays, sharks and schools of fish swimming around you, plus decent exhibits on four ocean habitats spread over two floors. Expect to spend 90–120 minutes if you take your time. It gets very busy at weekends and during Portuguese school holidays; the crowds can make the narrower corridors feel cramped and the viewing windows hard to reach. The best time to visit is weekday mornings right after opening or on cooler winter days when tourist numbers drop noticeably.

Expect to pay around €25–€32 for a standard adult ticket. Skip-the-line options add a few euros but are worth it on busy days. The on-site café is overpriced and average; eat before or after in the Parque das Nações area instead. One honest tip: the temporary exhibitions are hit-and-miss – check what’s on before buying an upgraded ticket. The permanent collection is the real reason to go; the deep-sea section and the sea otters are the highlights. If you dislike crowds or have limited time in Lisbon, you can comfortably skip it – the city has stronger attractions – but families with kids usually rate it highly.
