Ardastra Gardens Zoo in Nassau: Worth It?

Ardastra is a modest 5-acre wildlife park and garden just outside central Nassau. Expect a pleasant but low-key couple of hours walking shaded paths past flamingos, parrots, iguanas, snakes, and a few monkeys and lemurs. The signature moment is the trained flamingo parade where the birds march on command—it's genuinely fun the first time but feels a bit circus-like. The enclosures are older style, not expansive modern zoo habitats, so don't come expecting a world-class animal experience. The gardens themselves are pretty and peaceful, a nice contrast to the cruise-port crowds.

Best time to visit is December through April when it's cooler and drier; avoid midday in summer when it's brutally hot and humid. Expect to pay around $25–40 per adult for entry, more like $50–80 if you add a guided tour or combine it with an ATV or city excursion. A knowledgeable friend tip: go early in the morning for the first flamingo show, then walk the gardens at your own pace. Skip the gift shop and overpriced snacks—bring water and head back into town for lunch instead. It's a decent half-day activity if you like birds and need a break from beaches or shopping, but not worth a full day.
