Blue Hole Diving in Nassau: What to Know

Expect a dramatic underwater sinkhole dropping hundreds of feet, with crystal-clear water that lets you peer into the abyss while staying in the shallows. Most trips combine a short boat ride with snorkeling or intro diving along the rim, plus a couple of nearby reefs. The water is usually calm and stunningly blue, but it's a guided experience with 6-12 people; don't expect total solitude. Visibility is excellent year-round, though marine life is more about small fish and corals than big pelagics.

The best time is December to April when seas are flattest and weather is most predictable. Avoid summer and early fall if you're prone to seasickness, as tropical storms can cancel trips or make the ride bumpy. Expect to pay around $150–$280 per person depending on whether it's a basic snorkel tour or a guided scuba intro dive with gear and instruction included.

Pick a smaller-group morning departure to beat the crowds and get better light. Skip the add-on “shark encounter” options if you want a pure blue hole focus; they usually visit a different site anyway. Bring your own snorkel gear if you have it—rental quality varies.
