A boat tour is one of the best ways to see Dubrovnik’s walls from the water and escape the crowds on the mainland. Most trips head to the Elafiti islands (usually all three: Koločep, Lopud and Šipan) for swimming stops, a simple lunch, and a few hours of free time. Expect 6–8 hours total, including pickup from the Old Port or Gruž harbour. The ride itself is pleasant but can get choppy if the wind picks up; the boats range from large group vessels with loudspeakers to smaller ones carrying 10–12 people. You’ll spend more time anchored or docked than actually cruising.
Summer (June–September) is peak season with hot, sunny days ideal for swimming, but also the most crowded and expensive. May and October offer better value, fewer people, and still decent swimming weather. Expect to pay around €45–€70 per person for a standard full-day group tour including lunch; private or semi-private options start closer to €90–€130. Drinks are usually extra.
Pick a smaller boat if you want space to move and fewer loud announcements. Skip the ones that promise “sunset + dinner + party” — they’re often rushed and disappointing. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and water; the islands have limited shade once you leave the boat.
