Is a Waterfalls Day Trip from Dubrovnik Worth It?

A full-day trip from Dubrovnik to Kravica Waterfalls usually includes a couple of hours at the falls plus a stop in Mostar. Expect a long day (10–12 hours total) with about 2.5–3 hours each way on the road. The waterfalls are pretty – turquoise water tumbling over a wide, forested cliff into a swimmable lake. In summer it gets crowded and the water is refreshing; you can swim, walk the paths, and grab a drink at the cafés. Mostar adds the famous bridge, quick old-town wandering, and a bit of history, but it's a compressed visit. The drive crosses into Bosnia with passport checks both ways, so bring your passport.

Best time is late spring (May–June) or early fall (September) when it's warm enough to swim but the crowds are lighter and the surrounding greenery looks fresh. July and August are hot, busy, and the falls can feel like a theme park. Expect to pay around $60–$180 per person depending on whether you go in a larger group tour, semi-private, or fully private. Private tours cost more but give you flexibility on timing and stops.

Pick a tour that includes at least 2 hours at Kravica and skips extra detours like Pocitelj if you're short on energy – the waterfalls are the real highlight. Skip it altogether if you hate long bus days or crowds; you can find similar (though smaller) swimming spots closer to Dubrovnik with far less travel. Bring water shoes, sunscreen, and cash in both currencies.
