Bungee Jumping in Queenstown: What You Need to Know

Expect a serious adrenaline hit followed by pure relief. You'll stand on a platform 40+ metres up, get a quick safety briefing, then leap into open air over a river gorge. The freefall lasts only a few seconds before the cord yanks you back; the real buzz is the bounce and swing afterwards. It's over fast – maybe 10 minutes total once you're geared up – but the memory lasts. Staff are efficient and the setups are very safe, though your stomach will still knot while you wait your turn. The views are spectacular but you probably won't notice much mid-jump.

Best time is November to April when the weather is warmer and days are longer. Summer (Dec-Feb) is busiest and slots fill quickly; shoulder months give you decent weather with fewer crowds. Expect to pay around NZ$200–350 depending on which jump you choose and whether you add photos or video. The classic bridge jump is usually the cheapest; canyon swings or higher drops cost more.

Tip: pick the original Kawarau Bridge jump if it's your first time – it's iconic, slightly lower, and the river below means you can choose to get dunked or not. Skip the tandem option unless you're jumping with a partner; solo feels cleaner. Book at least a few days ahead in peak season or you'll waste time hunting last-minute spots.
