A typical half-day cave boat tour from Dubrovnik takes you by speedboat to the Blue Cave on Koločep island and often includes the Green Caves plus a stop at Šunj Beach on Lopud. Expect about 3.5–5 hours total. The Blue Cave itself is the highlight: you slip inside a sea cave where the water glows electric blue from sunlight refracting through the entrance. It’s genuinely striking for ten minutes, but the visit is quick because boats rotate in and out. The Green Caves offer nice swimming and snorkeling in clear water, while Šunj Beach gives you time to swim or relax on a sandy shore with a drink. It’s a pleasant half-day escape from the old town crowds, especially in warm weather, but it’s not a remote wilderness experience—other boats will be there.
Best time is late spring (May–June) or early fall (September–early October) when the sea is calm, crowds are lighter, and you avoid July–August peak heat and congestion. Expect to pay around €55–€90 per person for a small-group tour including pickup, snorkel gear, and one drink; private charters run €400–€650 for up to six people. Choose a small-group option (8–12 people max) over the big party boats.
Tip: Book one that includes snorkel gear and a stop at Šunj if you want to swim properly—pure cave-only trips feel rushed. Skip it if you get seasick easily or prefer solitude; the route can get choppy and busy in summer.
