Should You Do the Fortress Tour in Dubrovnik?

The Lovrjenac Fortress tour is basically a steep climb up to the dramatic promontory just outside the city walls. You get sweeping sea views, solid history about how Dubrovnik defended itself, and the chance to walk around the battlements where they filmed parts of Game of Thrones. Expect 45-90 minutes depending on whether you join a guided walk or go solo. It's compact but the views and wind off the Adriatic make it feel bigger than it is. The climb is short but steep and exposed, so bring water and wear decent shoes. In summer it gets brutally hot with zero shade.

Best time is spring (April-June) or fall (September-October) when it's cooler and the crowds are lighter. Expect to pay around €25-45 per person for a guided option that includes the fortress and part of the city walls; solo entry is cheaper but you'll wait in line during peak season. Private tours push toward the higher end.

Tip: Combine it with a section of the city walls walk instead of doing the full walls circuit - it's less exhausting and you still get the best photos. Skip the big group Game of Thrones tours if you're not a fan; the generic history-focused ones are shorter and less crowded.
