A full-day trip to Cayo Levantado (often called Bacardi Island) usually means an early hotel pickup around 6-7am, a two-hour bus ride to the Samana peninsula, then a catamaran or speedboat ride to the island and often a second stop at a beach like Rincon Bay or a waterfall. On the island you get a few hours to swim in clear water, drink from coconuts, eat a decent Dominican buffet lunch (grilled fish, rice, beans, plantains), and lounge under palm trees. The boat ride back can be rough if the sea is choppy. It’s a classic Caribbean day-trip experience: loud music on the boat, plenty of rum, and a mix of families and younger groups. Expect to be back at your resort between 6pm and 8pm.
Best time to go is December through April when seas are calmer and rain is less likely. Summer and fall tours run but you have a higher chance of rough water or cancellations. Expect to pay around $130–$180 per person including transport, lunch, and drinks; cheaper options usually mean bigger crowds and less time on the island.
Tip: Choose the version that includes the stop at Limon waterfall if you like a short horseback ride and a quick swim in fresh water; it breaks up the beach time nicely. Skip the add-on “VIP” upgrade or lobster lunch unless you really want to pay double for slightly better service and a quieter corner of the beach.
