Dunn's River Falls is a hands-on climb up a series of limestone cascades that empty straight into the sea. From Montego Bay you'll spend about 90 minutes each way in a van, so the typical full-day tour includes the falls plus one or two other stops like a blue hole or garden. Expect to get very wet, form a human chain with strangers, and spend roughly an hour climbing while your guide points out slippery spots. The water is refreshingly cool, the rocks are uneven, and there are flat paths alongside if you don't want to climb. It's fun and photogenic but can feel crowded and a bit theme-park-ish when several buses arrive at once.
Best time is December to mid-April when it's drier and the water flow is lower, making the climb easier and safer. Expect to pay around $110β$180 per person from Montego Bay, including transport, guide, and park fees; private tours sit at the higher end. Go early in the morning if you can.
Pick the version that includes just the falls and a beach stop; skip the ones that cram in three different waterfalls in one day unless you really love long bus rides. Wear water shoes with good grip (they sell or rent them at the site if you forget) and bring a dry bag for your phone and wallet. If you're not steady on your feet or dislike crowds, just view it from the bottom instead of climbing.
