A typical geopark day tour from Taipei takes you to Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen old town, and Shifen. Yehliu is the main geological highlight — you’ll walk among strange rock formations like the Queen’s Head and other eroded sandstone shapes. It’s interesting for 45–60 minutes if you like natural oddities, but it gets very crowded. Jiufen offers steep alleyways, teahouses, and views; Shifen is known for the old railway tracks and sky lantern releasing. Expect a long day (9–10 hours total) with a fair bit of driving and some waiting around. It’s doable but tiring, especially in summer heat or winter rain.

The best time is late autumn through spring (October to April). Summers are hot, humid, and often rainy, which makes the coastal rocks slippery and the lantern photos less impressive.
