Hacienda Adventure in Liberia: Worth It?

This is a full-day adventure package on a large working ranch next to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Expect a mix of activities: horseback riding through dry forest, white-water tubing on the river, hiking to waterfalls, and ending with thermal hot springs and optional mud baths. The pace is brisk; you'll switch activities every 1-2 hours with a decent lunch included. It's outdoorsy but not hardcore—suitable for most fitness levels and kids over about 8. The terrain is hot and can be dusty or muddy depending on season. Crowds are common in peak months; mornings feel less rushed.

Best time is December to April (dry season) when trails are easier and river levels are safer for tubing. June–October is greener and cheaper but much wetter; some activities may be limited after heavy rain. Expect to pay around $90–$140 per person for the full combo package including transport from Liberia, activities, lunch, and hot springs access. Shorter half-day options run $50–$80.

Pick the horseback ride plus hot springs combo if you want the most variety. Skip the canopy zip lines here—they're average and feel tacked on. Bring water shoes, quick-dry clothes, and plenty of bug spray. Book directly with the hacienda if possible; it often saves money compared to resellers.
