Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tours in LA: Worth It?

These tours run open-top double-decker buses on loops that cover Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Downtown LA, Santa Monica, and Venice Beach. You can hop off at any of the 40+ stops, wander around, and catch the next bus that comes by—usually every 30-60 minutes. The ride itself is decent for getting your bearings and seeing the sprawl without driving, but traffic can make it slow, especially midday. The live guides are hit-or-miss: some are genuinely funny and knowledgeable, others just play recorded commentary. Sit on the right side for better views on the Hollywood route.

Go between late September and early December or in March–April if you can. Milder weather, smaller crowds, and less brutal sun on the open top. The single-day version is usually enough unless you’re planning a very relaxed pace.
