Horseback Riding in Los Cabos: What to Know

Expect a mix of desert landscape, ocean views, and beach riding depending on the operator and location. Most rides last 1–2 hours and move at a walking pace with occasional trots. The horses are generally calm and used to tourists, but the saddles are often Western-style and can feel stiff if you’re not used to them. Beach rides at sunset are popular and genuinely pretty; inland desert rides feel more like a working ranch experience with cacti and rocky trails. It’s a solid activity if you want to get out of the resort bubble for a bit, but it’s not a serious trail ride for experienced riders.

The best time is November through April when temperatures are comfortable. Summer and early fall get extremely hot and humid, and many operators scale back or cancel midday rides. Expect to pay around $80–$150 per person for a standard 1–2 hour ride, with sunset or longer beach options at the higher end. Tips, transportation, and drinks are sometimes included, sometimes not.

Pick a smaller group ride that includes beach time if you want the classic postcard version. Skip the ones that tack on tequila tasting or other extras if you just want to ride — they usually feel rushed. Wear closed-toe shoes, bring a hat and sunscreen, and don’t expect to canter along the surf like in the movies.
