Stand up paddleboarding in Los Cabos is a relaxed way to see the coastline without the crowds of a booze cruise. Most tours launch from the calmer Sea of Cortez side (Medano Beach or nearby) and last 1.5–2 hours. You’ll paddle along rocky cliffs, past sea lions, and sometimes into small caves. The experience is gentle rather than athletic — expect more sightseeing and photos than a serious workout. Water is usually clear, marine life is common, and guides keep the group moving at a casual pace. It’s genuinely pleasant when conditions are right, but it can feel like a tourist conveyor belt when it’s busy.
Best time is November through May when winds are lighter and water is warmer. Summer and early fall often bring stronger winds, bigger swells, and afternoon thunderstorms that can cancel trips or make them uncomfortable. Expect to pay around $65–$110 per person depending on group size, time of day, and whether they include photos, snacks, or a smaller private group. Sunrise or sunset tours cost more but are noticeably better.
Pick a small-group tour (6 people max) if you can — it’s far more enjoyable and the guide actually has time to help. Skip the cheapest mass tours that pack 15+ people; they tend to feel rushed and chaotic. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and a waterproof phone case. If you’re a strong paddler, consider renting your own board for the day instead of joining a tour.
