Jordaan Tour in Amsterdam: Worth It?

A Jordaan tour usually means either a relaxed walking tour through the neighborhood’s quiet streets, hidden courtyards, and small galleries, or a canal boat tour that skims along the Prinsengracht and smaller waterways that border or cut through the area. Expect a mix of 17th-century architecture, anecdotes about the old working-class residents, artists who moved in later, and the inevitable Anne Frank house mention. Walking tours feel more intimate and let you linger; boat tours give you pretty views and a chance to sit down, but you’ll share the experience with more people and spend less time actually inside the Jordaan.

Best time is spring (April–early June) or early autumn (September–mid October). Summer is pleasant but crowded and hot on foot; winter tours can be atmospheric but raw if it’s windy or raining.
