It’s surprisingly fun once you get over the initial awkwardness, and it’s one of the few nightlife activities in Tokyo where locals really let loose. Best time is any evening from Thursday to Saturday after 8pm, though October–March tends to see locals going out more. Expect to pay around ¥3000–7000 per person for two hours including unlimited soft drinks and one drink. All-you-can-drink packages push it toward the higher end. Tip: Stick to songs everyone knows or can join in on (think 80s/90s hits, J-pop classics, or current viral tracks). Skip overly long ballads unless your group is really into it; they kill the energy.
