Studio Ghibli Museum: Worth It?

The Ghibli Museum is a charming, compact building in Mitaka filled with original artwork, short films you won't see anywhere else, a massive suspended whale, and playful details everywhere. Expect a relaxed but slightly crowded experience where you wander at your own pace through themed rooms, a small cafe, gift shop, and rooftop garden. It's genuinely magical if you love the films, but can feel underwhelming if you're only mildly curious or have limited time in Tokyo. The whole visit usually takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

Best time to go is weekdays in shoulder seasons (late spring or autumn) when crowds are lighter. Summer and weekends get packed. Expect to pay around $25-40 per adult including the timed entry ticket, plus another $10-20 for food, drinks, and souvenirs. Children are cheaper.

Honest tip: Get the timed ticket as far in advance as possible – they sell out fast, especially for popular slots. Skip trying to see everything in one go; instead linger in the short film theater and the rooftop garden. The cafe is nice but overpriced and often has a line, so eat beforehand unless you really want the themed snacks.
