Los Arcos is a small marine park just south of Puerto Vallarta known for its dramatic rock arches and decent fish life. Expect a 45-90 minute boat ride each way, then 45-60 minutes in the water. The snorkeling is shallow (10-25 ft), with parrotfish, sergeant majors, angelfish, and the occasional turtle or ray. Visibility is usually 15-30 ft; it’s pleasant but not Caribbean-level. The boat often stops at a second spot like “Madagascar” for a second swim. Tours run in medium-sized boats (20-40 people) or smaller private sails. It’s a half-day trip total, so you’re back by early afternoon.
Best time is November through May when the bay is calmer and water is clearest. June-October brings warmer water but more rain, swell, and occasional jellyfish; many operators still run but conditions are less predictable. Expect to pay around $45-85 per person depending on group size, inclusions (lunch, gear, photos), and whether it’s a basic tour or smaller sailboat. Private charters run $400-700 for up to 8-12 people.
Pick a morning departure to beat the afternoon chop and crowds. Bring your own mask and snorkel if you have them; rental gear is often well-used. Skip if you get seasick easily—the ride can be bumpy—or if you’ve snorkeled in clearer places like Cozumel or Hawaii. Otherwise it’s a solid, easy half-day from PV.
