Los Arcos is a small cluster of rocky islands just offshore from Puerto Vallarta that form a national marine park. The snorkeling is decent rather than world-class: expect warm, clear water most of the year, plenty of tropical fish, and a few rock formations. Visibility is usually 15–30 feet. The boat ride takes 30–45 minutes each way. Tours typically give you 45–60 minutes in the water at one or two spots. It’s a half-day trip that works well for beginners and families. Crowds are common; mornings are noticeably less chaotic than afternoons.
Best time is November through May when the water is calmer and visibility is better. June–October can still be fine but expect more swell, warmer water, and occasional rain. Expect to pay around $35–65 per person for a standard group boat tour including snorkel gear and a basic lunch or fruit. Private charters run $250–450 for up to six people. Stick with the morning departures and choose a smaller boat if possible. Skip the cheapest tours that pack 40+ people and spend most of the time motoring around; they rarely give you enough snorkel time. Bring your own mask and snorkel if you have them—rental gear is often old and leaky.
