Noraebang Guide: How to Do Karaoke in Seoul

A noraebang is basically private karaoke rooms you rent by the hour. You walk in, get a small soundproof room with a big screen, two mics, a song book or tablet, and some snacks/drinks if you order them. It's loud, ridiculous, and surprisingly fun even if you're shy. Expect neon lights, tambourines, and zero judgment from the staff. Groups of friends usually go after dinner or late at night. Solo travelers can also go alone, though it's more common in pairs or bigger groups. The rooms range from tiny (2-3 people) to big party rooms that fit 10+.

Best time is autumn or spring when the weather is decent, but honestly Koreans do this year-round. Avoid Friday and Saturday nights if you don't want to wait. Expect to pay around 20,000–45,000 KRW per hour for a standard room depending on location, time, and group size (cheaper in Hongdae or smaller neighborhoods, more in Gangnam). Food and drinks add another 5–15k. Most places have a minimum 1–2 hour charge.

Tip: Pick a place with the latest English and K-pop song list — older rooms often have terrible foreign selections. Skip the overpriced “premium” rooms with fancy lights unless you're with a big group; a basic room is perfectly fine. Bring your own drinks from a convenience store if you want to keep costs down. It's one of the most genuinely local experiences you can have in Seoul.
