Budapest Parliament Tour: Worth It?

The Hungarian Parliament tour lasts about 45-60 minutes and takes you through the grand staircase, the ornate halls, and the main assembly chamber. Expect lots of gold leaf, impressive neo-Gothic details, and a fair bit of Hungarian political history. The building itself is genuinely striking from outside, especially when lit up at night or viewed from across the Danube. Inside it's crowded in peak season; you'll be in a group of 20-40 people with a guide using a microphone. The tour is mostly walking with some standing, and photography is allowed in most areas but not everywhere.

Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October) are the best times; summers are hot, crowded, and booking slots sell out quickly. Expect to pay around €15-€35 per adult depending on whether you choose a basic ticket or a package that includes skip-the-line access or a combined city tour. EU citizens often get discounts. Book at least a few days ahead in high season.

Pick the standard interior guided tour if it's your first visit; the boat tour that passes the building is nice for photos but doesn't replace going inside. Skip the souvenir photos at the end unless you really want them; they're overpriced and the quality is average. Wear comfortable shoes and arrive 15-20 minutes early for security screening.
