Petrin Hill Funicular & Tower: Worth It?

The funicular ride up Petrin Hill is quick, smooth, and genuinely pleasant, especially if your legs are already tired from Prague’s cobblestones. At the top you get a peaceful park with decent views over the city. The main attraction is the 60-meter steel lookout tower, a half-scale version of the Eiffel Tower. You can climb 299 steps or take the lift. On a clear day the 360° panorama is excellent; on hazy or cold days it’s mediocre. There’s also a quirky little mirror maze nearby that most adults find mildly entertaining for 10 minutes. Expect to pay around €8–14 total per person including funicular return and tower entry, more if you add any guided option.

Best time is late afternoon in spring or early autumn when the light is good and crowds are thinner. Skip it on summer weekends – the tower gets crowded and the wait for the lift can be annoying. Honest tip: take the funicular up and walk down through the park; the shaded paths are nice and you’ll see a different side of Prague. Skip the guided “tour” version unless you really want company – the site is easy to explore on your own in under 90 minutes.
