A typical sailing cruise in Los Cabos lasts 2–4 hours and takes you along the dramatic coastline where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific. Expect to see the famous rock arch (El Arco), sea lions, and dramatic cliffs up close. Most trips are on catamarans or sailboats that hold 10–40 people. Sunset sails are calmer and more scenic; daytime ones often include snorkeling stops if conditions allow. The water can get choppy near the point where the two oceans meet, so seasickness is common even on bigger boats. Whales are a bonus from December to March but not guaranteed on every trip.
Best time to go is November–May when temperatures are pleasant and seas are usually calmer. Summers bring extreme heat and more risk of rough water or hurricanes. Expect to pay around $60–$150 per person depending on boat size, inclusions (open bar, lunch, snorkel gear), and whether it’s a basic sightseeing trip or a longer snorkel-focused outing. Private charters run much higher.
Pick a smaller sailboat if you want a quieter experience with better sailing feel; skip the loud party catamarans unless you want music and drinking. Bring motion-sickness meds even if you don’t normally need them—the Pacific side can surprise you. Book morning or sunset trips to avoid the hottest part of the day.
