A sailing trip out of Nadi usually means a day cruise on a catamaran heading to the nearby reefs or one of the small islands in the Mamanuca chain. Expect a mix of sailing, snorkeling in clear but not mind-blowing water, a basic lunch, and plenty of time to swim or lounge on deck. The boats are generally comfortable and well-run, though they often carry 20–40 people. It’s a relaxing way to get on the water without committing to a multi-day liveaboard, but it’s more “pleasant day out” than “remote tropical wilderness.”
The best time is May to October when the weather is drier, seas are calmer, and visibility is better. From November to April the water is warmer but you’re more likely to hit rain, wind, or rougher conditions that can cancel trips. Expect to pay around $150–$280 per person for a full-day trip that includes snorkel gear, lunch, and drinks. Shorter half-day or sunset sails run cheaper, while premium smaller-group options push toward the higher end.
Pick a proper sailing catamaran over a loud jet-boat “safari” if you actually want to sail. Skip the floating platform party boats if you’re after peace and quiet. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, motion sickness tablets if you’re sensitive, and don’t expect world-class snorkeling right off Nadi — the better reefs are farther out and require a longer trip.
