Sainte-Chapelle Tour: Worth It?

Sainte-Chapelle is worth seeing once. The upper chapel is genuinely breathtaking: 15 huge stained-glass windows create a wall of color and light that feels almost weightless. Expect a small, intimate space (much smaller than Notre-Dame) that fills quickly. A standard visit takes 30-45 minutes once inside. The lower chapel is forgettable by comparison. Most people do it as a quick stop after Notre-Dame or on its own. If you're short on time or energy, this is one of the few Paris sights that still delivers even in 20 minutes.

Best time is spring or fall on a weekday morning right after opening. Summer crowds are heavy and the light can be too harsh; winter offers beautiful low-angle sun but shorter days. Expect to pay around €40-70 total per person. This covers skip-the-line entry either alone or on a small-group guided tour. Solo tickets are cheaper but lines can still eat 30-45 minutes in peak season.

Honest tips: Take the guided tour if it's your first visit; the stories behind the windows make it far more interesting. Skip combining it with a full Notre-Dame interior tour unless you're on a tight schedule; the sites are very different and doing both in one morning can feel rushed. Go early or late in the day to avoid the worst crowds.
