Melbourne Sea Life Aquarium: Worth It?

It's a solid, modern aquarium with the usual mix of big tanks, tunnel walkways, and touch pools. Expect to spend 90 minutes to two and a half hours depending on how much you linger. The shark tunnel and stingray exhibit are the main draws; the penguins and seahorses are decent but nothing groundbreaking. It's clean, well lit, and easy to navigate, though it gets loud and crowded with school groups and families on weekends and during school holidays.

Best time to visit is weekday mornings in autumn or winter (March-August) when crowds are thinner and the marine animals tend to be more active. Summer is busier and hotter inside. Expect to pay around $35–55 for an adult ticket; kids are roughly half price. Combo tickets with other attractions push the total higher but can save money if you were going to do multiple sites anyway.

Honest tips: Go straight to the shark tunnel and the big ocean tank first thing – that's the highlight and worth seeing when it's quiet. Skip the paid “behind the scenes” or animal encounter add-ons unless you're really into it; they're not worth the extra cash for most visitors. Bring your own water bottle – the cafe is overpriced and average.
