Skydiving in Las Vegas: What You Should Know

Skydiving here means a 10-15 minute flight up to about 10,000–13,000 feet, roughly 60 seconds of freefall at 120 mph, then 4–6 minutes floating under canopy. The views are genuinely impressive: you’ll see the Strip in the distance, the brown desert, Hoover Dam, and Lake Mead if the weather is clear. It’s not a spiritual experience for most people; it’s loud, windy, intense, and over quickly. Tandem jumps are the standard choice—your instructor is literally strapped to your back. Expect a safety briefing, signing multiple waivers, and about 2–3 hours total at the drop zone from arrival to landing. The actual jump is thrilling but the preceding nerves and waiting can be the hardest part.

Best time is spring (March–May) or fall (September–November) when temperatures are milder and winds are usually calmer. Summer is brutally hot on the ground and winter can bring unpredictable winds that cancel flights. Expect to pay around $250–$450 depending on altitude, whether you add photos/video, and if you book directly or through a reseller. Add transport from the Strip if you don’t have a car.

Pick a tandem jump with the highest available altitude they offer that day and skip the cheap GoPro “selfie” packages—your instructor’s footage is usually steadier. Book a morning slot if possible; the air is calmer and you’ll avoid the worst desert heat. If you’re on the fence, do it once. Most people are glad they did, but almost nobody repeats it on the same trip.
