Stand Up Paddleboarding in Panama City Beach

Stand up paddleboarding here is relaxed and scenic rather than adventurous. Most tours take you through calm bays and mangrove tunnels with decent wildlife spotting — herons, mullet jumping, occasional dolphins. Expect 2–2.5 hour trips that are suitable for beginners. The water is usually flat unless the wind picks up, and guides keep groups small. It’s a solid half-day activity that feels more chill than thrill. Don’t expect crystal-clear Caribbean water; it’s greenish Gulf water, but still pleasant.

Best time is March through early June or September–October. Summers are hot and afternoon thunderstorms are common; winter can bring strong north winds that make paddling harder. Expect to pay around $45–70 per person for a guided morning or sunset tour including board, paddle, and basic instruction. Private or longer excursions run higher.

Pick a small-group tour that goes into the mangroves rather than just the open bay — it’s more interesting. Skip the big party-boat style operations that rush large groups through in the heat of the day. Wear rash-guard or sunscreen, bring a waterproof phone case, and go in the morning if you want calmer conditions and fewer drunks on the water.
