Taronga sits on a steep hillside overlooking Sydney Harbour, so expect a lot of walking and some decent climbs. The animal collection is strong – Asiatic lions, giraffes, koalas, and a solid Australian section – but the real draw is the setting. Many enclosures have million-dollar harbour views that make the visit feel more like a day in a park than a typical zoo. It gets busy on weekends and during school holidays; mornings are noticeably quieter. Summer can be hot and the paths exposed, while winter is mild and far more comfortable for both visitors and animals.
Expect to pay around AU$50–65 for an adult ticket if you buy online in advance; kids are roughly 60–70% of that. Add ferry transport from Circular Quay (the nicest way to arrive) and you’re looking at AU$70–90 per adult for a simple visit. The Sky Safari cable car and seal show are worth doing once. Skip the paid keeper talks and behind-the-scenes tours unless you have a special interest – the standard walk-around gives you most of what matters.
