The underwater waterfall is an optical illusion created by sand runoff and ocean currents off Le Morne peninsula. From a boat you won’t see much more than shifting turquoise patterns and some sediment trails; the view only makes sense from the air. A typical boat tour circles the area for 30-45 minutes, often combined with dolphin spotting closer to shore or a stop at a reef for snorkeling. It’s a pleasant half-day on the water but don’t expect to feel like you’re hovering over a plunging cascade; the real spectacle is reserved for helicopter passengers.
Best time is the dry season from May to early December when seas are calmer and visibility is better. Avoid January to March when swells and rain can cancel trips or turn the water murky. Expect to pay around $45–90 per person for a standard boat tour; helicopter packages that include the better viewpoint run $250–500 depending on flight length and whether transfers are included.
Tip: book a morning departure to avoid afternoon wind chop. Skip the full-day “southwest tour” combos that drag you through crowded parks afterward; just do the boat (or boat-plus-helicopter) and spend the rest of the day at a beach instead.
