Should You Take the Vintage Tram in Stockholm?

The vintage tram ride in Stockholm is a simple, no-frills heritage service that runs from the city centre to Djurgården. Expect a 15-minute journey in beautifully maintained old wooden carriages with wooden benches and clanking sounds. It's more of a pleasant transport option than a guided tour – there’s no commentary, just the experience of riding a piece of living history through nice parts of the city. The tram is popular with both locals and visitors, so it can get crowded on weekends and in summer.

Best time to do it is late spring or early autumn on a weekday morning or early afternoon when the light is good and crowds are lighter. In summer it’s still enjoyable but expect queues and full trams. You only need an ordinary SL public transport ticket – no special fare. Expect to pay around 40–60 SEK per person depending on whether you buy a single ticket or use a 24/72-hour pass. It’s one of the cheapest ways to reach Djurgården.
