Expect a mix of climbing, swimming, and sliding down limestone tiers into cool, clear pools. Dunn's River is the big one: a guided human chain up the falls with lots of photo stops, laughter, and slippery rocks. Smaller options like Blue Hole feel more relaxed — you jump into deep pools, swim under small cascades, and sometimes explore a cave. It's physical but not extreme; wear water shoes and expect to get fully soaked. Crowds can make it chaotic, especially if multiple tour buses arrive at once.
Best time is December to April when it's drier and cooler. Rainy season (May–November) makes the water murkier and the rocks much slicker. Expect to pay around $80–$150 per person including transport from Montego Bay, guide, and entry. excursions that bundle a waterfall with dolphin swims or the Luminous Lagoon cost more but eat up the whole day.
Pick the smaller waterfall swims if you want to actually enjoy the water instead of just posing for photos. Skip the big combined tours if you're short on time or hate crowds — they're rushed and exhausting. Bring cash for tips, reef-safe sunscreen, and a waterproof phone pouch. Go early if you can.
