Denver Zoo: Worth a Visit?

The Denver Zoo is a solid, well-run zoo with a good mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits. Expect to spend 3-4 hours if you want to see everything at a reasonable pace. The primate and big cat areas are consistently strong, as are the tropical bird and sea lion shows when they're running. Some exhibits feel a bit dated, but the animal care looks solid and the grounds are easy to walk. It's not the biggest zoo you'll ever visit, but it's clean, well-organized, and enjoyable for both adults and kids.

Go between late spring and early fall if you can. Summer can get hot and crowded, especially on weekends, but spring and fall offer milder weather and fewer people. Expect to pay around $20-35 per adult ticket depending on timing and whether you add extras like parking or a train ride. Kids and seniors get discounts; membership can make sense if you're visiting multiple times or combining with other attractions.

Tip: Prioritize the Asian Tropics and Predator Ridge areas and skip or save the children's zoo if time is short. Bring your own water and snacks. The on-site food is decent but expensive. If you're short on time or on a tight budget, you can easily do the highlights in a couple of focused hours rather than a full day.
