Miami Zoo: Worth It or Skip?

The Miami zoo is a solid, spacious wildlife park with over 3,000 animals spread across a thousand acres. Expect a full day of walking on mostly flat, paved paths under heavy Florida sun. The habitats are decently large and naturalistic compared to many older zoos, with good viewing areas for elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and a strong collection of big cats and primates. It's clean, well-run, and has several decent animal shows and keeper talks throughout the day. Don't expect constant wow moments or theme-park energy; it's a proper zoo where you actually observe animals rather than being entertained every minute.

Best time to visit is December through April when it's cooler and drier. Summer brings brutal heat, afternoon thunderstorms, and fewer animals visible during the hottest hours. Expect to pay around $60-85 per adult including basic entry and parking; add another $15-25 each if you want the tram tour or animal encounters. Families should budget $200-300 total once food and extras are included.

Smart move: rent a stroller or mobility scooter if anyone in your group tires easily - the distances are real. Skip the pricey VIP experiences and just catch the free daily shows instead. Bring your own water and snacks; the on-site food is average and overpriced.
