The Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway is a 60-plus-mile network of high-elevation dirt roads connecting Lake City, Silverton, and Ouray, climbing over Cinnamon Pass (12,600 feet) and Engineer Pass (12,800 feet). Visitors drive through restored ghost towns, alpine lakes, and wildflower-filled basins above tree line, experiencing the same mining routes prospectors crossed in the 1870s-1880s.
